I’m getting ready to migrate my Wordpress blog to another server. The new server runs Red Hat Linux and is much better suited to handle web traffic than my current homemade server.
Migrations can be a pain in the ass if you don’t anticipate the worst, so with that in mind, I’m preparing to go to war, so to speak. My plan includes:
- create Wordpress website (at new location)
- backup files & theme (at old site)
- backup database & tables
- restore database & tables (at new location)
- restore files & theme
- change domain server name (point to new location)
These steps should produce a Wordpress migration without any disruption in service what so ever. Of course this is only a plan and you should have a backup plan in case you run into trouble. One thing is for sure, Copy and Paste is not an option for me.
