The Porsche 914 is a design beauty. I love the hard lines and the low profile body stance.
Because I live in Seattle, I can only drive my 914 during the summer months. Today I started the car and ran it for a few minutes in the driveway just to see if it still worked. As soon as I heard the engine turn over and start, I got a big smile on my face; it was great!

I’ve noticed a lot of people are hitting this post. Out of curiosity… I’d like to hear from other Porsche 914 owners out there. Do you have a 914? Do you drive it all the time? please share your comments below.

John, I should have mentioned that my 914 runs great, but it also needs a lot of work. For starters, the heater fan doesn’t work among other non essential items.
I’ll drive it on Saturday to Viceroy so you can check it out.

I am looking to restore my dad’s 914 thats been sitting in the garage for 17 years. What would be the first step to fixing it up?
I’m not an expert in fixing up cars by any means, but I’d look to see if your 914 has a straight body and also look for rust spots. The 914 is notorious for developing cancer spots as they call it. Mine for example has 2 rust areas on the bottom front and back.
Once you’ve taken care of the body damage, you can start working on the mechanical aspect.

I started restoring my dad’s 914 (With racing flares :D) about two years ago Ryan, after it sat for around 14 years. It’s been rough here and there, but the results are starting to show really well
Our 914 sat in a garage the entire time, so not too much rust occured. But a lot does exist, and I’ll have to cut out a few panels here and there and weld new ones in. I drove the car without much problem completely out of tune and missing many components for a while, but now its overhaul time

Original owner 1975 914 1.8 purchased for $9,000. I’m sure I’ve put at least that much back in for repairs over the past 33 years. I was looking online for info as now 1) tachometer not working, 2) heater not working, 3) right headlight out, rather than take her for repairs at a cost of anywhere from $300 to $500, I was hoping maybe some fuses just needed to be replaced, but from what I’ve been reading online at websites it looks like she’s going to be going in the shop again for at least another $500 repair job. And believe me, the shop I take her to has the most honest, non rip off owner…it’s the labor cost that are a killer. That’s the problem when a high maintenance car has a non mechanical owner…..but I LOVE my car!
