Porsche 914 blueprint

Mario Seijo's 1975, Porsche 914

The Porsche 914 is a design beauty. I love the hard lines and the low profile body stance.

I only drive my 914 during the summer months due to the cold weather in Seattle. Today I started the car and ran it for a few minutes in the driveway just to see if it still worked. As soon as I heard the engine turn over and start, I got a big smile on my face; it was great!

Update:
I’ve noticed a lot of people are hitting this post.  Out of curiosity… I’d like to hear from other Porsche 914 owners out there.  Do you have a 914? Do you drive it all the time? please share your comments below.

Enjoy the blueprint!

Mario, when did you get this? What do you mean you can only drive it in the summer? The car was designed to drive in Germany, a climate very similar to ours.
    We’ll talk Saturday.

John, I should have mentioned that my 914 runs great, but it also needs a lot of work. For starters, the heater fan doesn’t work among other non essential items.

I’ll drive it on Saturday to Viceroy so you can check it out.

Hey, I’m from the Netherlands and found this blueprint on Google.
    Thanks for it!
I also drive this car in summermonths, it keeps your car looks better than use it for every day.

I am looking to restore my dad’s 914 thats been sitting in the garage for 17 years. What would be the first step to fixing it up?

I’m not an expert in fixing up cars by any means, but I’d look to see if your 914 has a straight body and also look for rust spots. The 914 is notorious for developing cancer spots as they call it. Mine for example has 2 rust areas on the bottom front and back.

Once you’ve taken care of the body damage, you can start working on the mechanical aspect.

Good luck and let me know how it goes.

I started restoring my dad’s 914 (With racing flares :D ) about two years ago Ryan, after it sat for around 14 years. It’s been rough here and there, but the results are starting to show really well :)

Our 914 sat in a garage the entire time, so not too much rust occured. But a lot does exist, and I’ll have to cut out a few panels here and there and weld new ones in. I drove the car without much problem completely out of tune and missing many components for a while, but now its overhaul time ;)

Sweet cars. Fun to drive. Gets peoples’ attention all the time.
    Go for it! :D

Original owner 1975 914 1.8 purchased for $9,000. I’m sure I’ve put at least that much back in for repairs over the past 33 years. I was looking online for info as now 1) tachometer not working, 2) heater not working, 3) right headlight out, rather than take her for repairs at a cost of anywhere from $300 to $500, I was hoping maybe some fuses just needed to be replaced, but from what I’ve been reading online at websites it looks like she’s going to be going in the shop again for at least another $500 repair job. And believe me, the shop I take her to has the most honest, non rip off owner…it’s the labor cost that are a killer. That’s the problem when a high maintenance car has a non mechanical owner…..but I LOVE my car!

@Ryan I’m just about to finish up getting my Dad’s (now mine) 74 2.0 running. It had been garaged since 94. Other than being covered in dust, it looked ready to go. That was 3 months ago. I’ve had to replace the complete fuel system (from tank to injectors) along with SS main fuel lines (beware the stock plastic ones). Also had to rebuild the ignition system (no fire), vac lines, new brake likes (flexible sections) as well as rebuild all four calipers. Once I get the rebuilt injectors installed and get it fired up, I’ll have to free the stuck clutch disk. If yours has been sitting for 17 years, I’d look real hard at these things before trying to fire it up. Personally, I plan on driving mine daily, once I get it going (hopefully this week).

I will be getting my grandfather’s 1974 1.8, and although I know he took great care of it, it has been sitting covered the last 2-3 years in his garage. I know he did maintain it well up until that point, but who knows what lurks…

However, like most 914 owners I have met, its more than just a car. Its something that means a lot to me and will be worth every penny I put into it.

I have a 73 1.7 all black. My dad bought new. I bought it (at market value) in 1980. I drive it every summer and right now I can’t wait to get it on the road. I’ll attach some shots on a separate email if you’d like. Enjoy your VoPo!
    Best regards,
    Ron

It’s great to know there are other 914 owners like me trying to keep their 914’s running year over year. I’m looking forward to the day when I can keep my 914 in a garage and be able to work on anytime of the year.

The blueprint appears to be for a `69-`70 2.0L 914-6. Yours appears to be a `75-`76, but which engine?

I’ve had a `73 914-2.0 (4 cyl F.I.) since 1976, when I bought it 3 yrs old with 45,000 mi for $4500, and put miles up to 120,000 /- by May 1985, with an engine rebuild at 100k /- & other minor work over that time. It’s a rust free So. California car with most everything original or stock/OEM replacement, except paint – which I redid in `79 in Porsche’s 911 “Anthracite” (dark grey or gunmetal) metallic, after the prior owner had over-painted the original white (boring!) with a metallic copper/bronze color. Interior, etc. is in reasonably good to very good/excellent shape.

It’s been stored in my garage since then, due to a UCLA Sorority dingbat who managed to hit it in the parking structure while I was in MBA classes, & pushed it into a concrete column, thereby damaging front & back. I needed a car quick, so I leased an `85 BMW 325e (which I later bought-out & still have it and am about finished restoring it.

I was Googling for a 914 parts car to start the 914 restoration soon, when I came across your car.

Try Auto Atlanta for your heater and other parts. I stopped by their business last Fall while visiting family in GA & they seem to be good folks who are dedicated to the marque! So get that car winterized so you can enjoy it year round!

    Cheers!
    Tom

I just asked my dad about this 914 we had sitting in the back for about 7 years. Its a 72 1.8. Sense we have a full shop in the back with lifts i put it in there and checked it out. Deffinetly some ryst spots, mainly just by the battery. Cars runs fine but not from the key. I had to jump it but once i got it jumped it ran great. I love the car and hope to drive it as a daily driver.
his blue print has helped alot! anyone have any tips for main places i should look before i take it out to drive?
