Switched to Linux

Jeff from Softies on Rails, wrote a blog post discussing code source control, From VSS to SVN: Part 1. In his post, he also asks “how many of you out there are using Windows for your Rails development, and how many have switched to a Mac (at least for purposes of learning Rails)?”

I was very surprised that he didn’t ask if anyone was using Linux to develop on Rails; so I quickly added a comment on his blog about switching to Linux and using Fedora and Ubuntu. After reading a few other comments, I was happy to see that others had also made the switch to Linux.

For me, switching to Linux has been fun and challenging at the same time; and I’m sure that developing my first Ruby on Rails application on Linux will be even more juicy and exciting!

Porsche 914 blueprint

The Porsche 914 is a design beauty. I love the hard lines and the low profile body stance.

Because I live in Seattle, I can only drive my 914 during the summer months. Today I started the car and ran it for a few minutes in the driveway just to see if it still worked. As soon as I heard the engine turn over and start, I got a big smile on my face; it was great!

Tiny Solar Robots

This is my first robot building endeavor—so for starters, I will make a tiny solar robot as outlined in MAKE magazine.
http://www.makezine.com/blog/archive/2007/05/create_teeny_tiny_solar_r.html

This project seems simple enough that I’ll be able to finish and it also gives me the building blocks for a larger robot with more features.

can’t wait…

This modern life

I can totally relate to this guy; do you know what I mean?

Online Ruby tutorial

After poking around the web for a Ruby tutorial, I stumbled upon one written by Chris Pine. His Ruby tutorial is called “Learn to Program“.

I’ve been quietly reading this tutorial for a few weeks (a little here and there). So far, I’m about halfway through (chapter 6) and learning lots about the Ruby language

After I finish the tutorial, I want to get started on learning more about the Ruby on Rails framework.
